Food Challenger

3 friends meet in a pub to accept a challenge. 3 lists each, 50 different foods, drinks and ingredients per list. From bacon, to quail eggs, from snake to raw beef marinaded in vodka, you can follow us through this journey of taste, disgust, and the runs.

#14 and #48 on Twisty’s list of food he likes, Green Tea and Custard in that order.

As requested by the missus I served an apple and bramley crumble for dessert tonight, so I thought what better chance to cross off something on the list by pouring copious amounts of custard on it =3 I’m a big fan of custard, but I always prefer it cold so that’s how I served my own.

The Green Tea I decided would be a good opportunity to get out of the way because I fancied a cup of something hot to go with my pudding. I’ve always been a bit cautious about herbal teas, always expecting them to either taste foul or not taste of anything. Admittedly on first sips it tasted of absolutely nothing, so I checked the box for serving suggestions. I was informed it goes nice with either sugar or honey, so I chose honey.

I’ve got to say, I’m a convert :) not only did it taste lovely but it was a nice change from a usual cup of tea and certainly bloody better than that coffee from earlier! The only down side is that it went straight through me and within minutes I was rushing to the toilet, but I’ve been told from our resident tea expert that it’s a perfectly normal side effect and is evidence of its properties of detoxing the kidneys.

I was also told that a cup of green tea a day is enough to lower the risk of a whole number of medical conditions. I don’t know how valid that statement is, but I’m willing to give it a go. Definitely something I’ll be trying again soon :) Thanks Twisty!

#43 on Twisty’s ‘like’ list - A nice hot cup of coffee.
I thought this experience would open my mind a bit about coffee, but I still hate it. Even with an extra 2 or so sugars put in, it’s still god awful. Damn you Twisty!

#16 on the ‘Foods I don’t like’ list by Twisty, Parma Violets.

Although Alex can’t stand these, I quite like them myself. Very sweet, not a problem to scoff down unless you eat too many then they just taste like perfume. Hmmm what to cross off next?

First thing’s first, #31 on Twisty’s list of foods he likes- Bacon!

Mmmmm, bacon…

Fried on both sides with mixed herbs and slapped in a sandwich. Great start to my day and first food crossed from the list. I recommend anyone to try zazzing up their bacon sandwich with mixed herbs, it adds so much more flavour to an already tasty wake-me-up

The challenge begins

At 3.30pm, on January 14th 2012, myself, one Alex Twist and another Callum KC Crane gathered at the Five Swans in Newcastle. We set ourselves a challenge as a means to expand our culinary horizons. Instead it descended into madness and hilarity.

Anyhoo, we each wrote 3 lists of food, ingredients and drinks - 50 we like, 50 we don’t like and 50 we’ve never tried before. Once the lists were written, we passed them to our left, and the aim of the challenge was set. We would work through all 150 items on each other’s lists, I myself receiving Mr. Twist’s lists, Callum receiving my lists and Alex receiving Callum’s.

Before the end of the year, or at least as soon as possible, we would sample each item and post evidence of it here for you good people of tumblr to enjoy our dickery, so feel free to follow, pass judgement or try it for yourselves, whichever you prefer :)
